Okay. Lets get to the basics. This dish is actually Burmese but with the recipe passed down through generations it has more of a Karachi taste to it now. Khao-sey is my ultimate comfort food. The warmth of the coconut curry just hugs the insides and it is delicious! There are three dishes to put together and does take a little time to prepare but it is all worth it in the end! So lets just get started!

Dish 1 - Coconut Curry.

Ingredients:

  • 6 table spoons of gram flour
  • 3 table spoons of youghurt
  • 3 table spoons of desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Chinese salt
  • 11/2 teaspoon of salt (or adjust accordingly)
  • 2 birds eye chillies

Directions:

  • Mix gram flour, youghurt and desiccated coconut together and whiz them in a chopper for a few seconds.
  • Heat a wok and add a cup of water and add the paste. Keep stirring it so it does not go lumpy. Add three more cups of water and stir for another two minutes, Add birds eyes chillies and cook for 40 mins on low flame. Add salt and Chinese salt and cook for 5 mins. Serve hot.

Dish 2 - Chicken curry.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg boneless chicken cut into very small pieces
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 1 table spoon chilli powder
  • 1 table spoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon all spice powder

Directions:

  • Heat oil in a wok and add chopped onions. Saute them till they turn light brown. Add chopped tomatoes, chilli powder, coriander powder and all spice powder.
  • Saute it till tomatoes are well cooked.
  • Add chicken and half a cup of water. Cook till chicken is done.

Dish 3 - Noodles.

Boil half a pack of spaghetti. Drain and keep aside.

Putting it all together:

Serve the noodles in a plate. Add coconut curry on top. After that, add chicken curry.

Garnish it with:

  • Crushed chili.
  • Fresh coriander
  • Chaat Masala
  • Lemon
  • Green chilies.
  • Crisps
  • Mint leaves
Mix it all together and enjoy the delicious-ness.
