Home therapy - Attic Bedrooms.

Following from my previous post, like I said, I am a major fan of attic bedrooms and I would not have it any other way. We are waiting for a budget guideline so the we can start planning our perfect attic bedroom really quickly.

The reason I love attic bedrooms is, that even with a small space you can make it look like you have done some major work without actually doing anything. The plus point here for me is that you have so much natural daylight coming through that it is just impossible to leave the room. And if you have a skylight, the sound of rain coming through is just blissful.

These are some ideas that I have finalised on and I am actually just waiting for the budget to come through so I pretty excited to get this working!

The first thing I want is a skylight that opens up into a terrace. Back in Pakistan, nearly every house has a terrace. And even though I have a huge backyard here, I really want a terrace. There are days when I just want to stand somewhere and have a cup of coffee or just put up my chair and work in fresh air.

When I was renting in the previous house, they had skylight in the lounge/extension area. But it was too high up and they had no blinds to give a total black out effect for those movie nights. So this time, I am making sure that I have a proper blind going on over the skylight/window so my bedroom is in full blackout effect during those mornings when I do not feel like getting up. And like I have mentioned a hundred times in my previous posts, cosy is what I aim for.

I have been looking at websites for really good blinds and I came across www.roofblinds.co.uk and they have an amazing range for Velux blinds! Their blinds are from the company Velux and are just perfect for what I had in mind! They have insect screens, which I absolutely require in my house, I am a person who needs to have fresh air in their house, for even an hour or so if its freezing outside. They have all kinds of blackout blinds, energy saving blinds and they even have a DISNEY COLLECTION!! So if you are thinking of converting your attic into your children's bedroom, these will be just perfect!

Another thing that, I love in an attic bedroom is elevation! Put the bed on an elevated platform and you have your own personal little space. So if I want to divide my room into a bedroom and a little television area, this is just the perfect thing for me. I can even add my favourite thing; a little reading corner! Just throw in a fabric chesterfield sofa with plus throws and its the best intimate space I could get for myself. I can feel myself zoning off to the idea of having a little reading nook in my own bedroom!

My mind is racing with so many ideas, I can not just put all the ideas together otherwise it will just woosh! over our budget and I am planning on not doing that! Haha!

Do you have any ideas on what things I can incorporate in my haven of an attic bedroom? Let me know in the comments down below!

  1. I also would love a loft conversion - it's my pipe dream to have one! I once saw a picture of bespoke cupboards made into the eaves of a loft as it's a great storage area to hide things like xmas trees that only come out once a year!

  2. I love skylights. Before deciding to just sell our house, we did think of doing an attic conversion. But when we hired an architect, he discourage us saying we won't get our money's worth if we decide to sell up in the future :(

  10. A creative use of space. I have lived in box rooms growing up so hate smaller spaces but always known it's how you create storage and decorate!

  11. Some of those ideas are fabulous. Our attic space is a model railway room for my husband but one day I plan to have it converted properly into an extra bedroom.

  12. I completely fantasise about having a loft conversion with pure white walls and long white draps and vases of white flowers and no noisy, sticky kids coming in and ruining my peace! Alas it will be a dream for some time as like you, we don't currently have the budget. Some lovely ideas here though. totally love the idea of a roof terrace!

  17. This looks so pretty. I would love to fall asleep under the stars :D Attic-rooms is quite common in Oslo, Norway. My friend that live in one said one time she woke up with a lot of rain water on her duna becuase she had the window open, so that is not so cool if you sleep right under the open window hehe.

  28. I've always love the idea of attic bedrooms! Never actually lived in a house with an attic even, but it's something about the odd dimensions you get in them, and that sense of being a little bit isolated which appeals.
